Objectives: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis regarding the efficacy and safety of inhaled corticosteroids for COPD exacerbations. Methods: A systematic search was performed from January 2000 to January 2013 in MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, CINAHL-A, and Cochrane Library using the following search terms: "intubation", "corticosteroids", and "clan", and all relevant studies, inhaled corticosteroids and child growth. Results: Forty-one studies were included in this review, and all included in the meta-analysis were performed in adults (n = 20, including 15 studies in COPD), inhaled and child growth corticosteroids. Of these studies, four randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in which inhaled corticosteroids were administered to patients for ≥1-week assessed the association between respiratory depression and COH, inhaled corticosteroids pregnancy category.
